Conversion to USPA Rating

If you are already in the possession of an instructional rating issued by another country/federation (non-USPA), we are able to offer you a conversion course in order to receive your USPA Rating.  All current conversion requirements can be found in the USPA Instructional Manual (IRM).


USPA Coach Rating

For persons with a current non-USPA Coach Rating or equivalent or an expired USPA Coach Rating:

  • Make at least one satisfactory USPA Coach Rating Course evaluation jump
  • Assist in at least one complete first-jump course
  • Attend a USPA Rating renewal seminar
  • Pass the Coach Course written exam with a score of at least 80%
  • Non-USPA Coaches must include their rating card or other proof of the non-USPA Coach Rating
  • Submit the completed USPA proficiency card


USPA AFF Instructor Rating

For personas with a current non-USPA AFF Rating or expired USPA AFF Rating:

  • Must satisfactorily conduct at least one complete AFF evaluation jump with an AFF I/E or evaluator
  • Pass the General USPA Instructor/AFF Instructor written exams with a score of at least 80%
  • Non-USPA AFF Instructors must include their rating card or other proof of the non-USPA AFF Rating
  • Submit the completed USPA proficiency card

Any person may obtain the USPA AFF Instructor Rating by challenging the AFF IRC and meeting the pre-requisites for the AFF Rating.


USPA IAD/S-L Instructor Rating

Persons with a current non-USPA IAD or SL Instructor Rating or expired USPA IAD/SL Instructor rating must:

  • Satisfactorily conduct at least one complete student evaluation jump with an IAD/SL I/E acting as a simulated student using the deployment method for which the candidate was rated, to include all jump preparation, supervising during the jump and debriefing
  • Pass the IAS /SL Instructor Course written exam with a score of at least 80%
  • Non-USPA IAD/SL Instructors must include their rating card or other proof of the non-USPA IAD/SL Rating
  • Submit the completed USPA proficiency card

Any person my obtain a USPA IAD/SL Instructor Rating by challenging the IAD/SL IRC and must meet all the pre-requisites for the IAD/SL Rating.


Cross training to UPT Tandem Rating

If you already possess a current Tandem Instructor rating from another manufacturer you can get crossed over to the Vector/Sigma rating. To qualify for cross-training you must verify the following documents:

  • possess a current tandem rating from another approved manufacturer (bring copy)
  • show proof of at least 25 jumps on this system (logbook)
  • meet all the requirements for the initial UPT tandem course

The course consists of classroom portions and a minimum of 2 evaluation jumps. Please come prepared according to the above mentioned requirements.


USPA Tandem Rating

For persons who hold a tandem rating issued by a non-US skydiving federation or for persons with no manufacturer rating recognized by USPA:

  • must have logged at least 15 tandem jumps in the previous 12 months
  • must meet the manufacturer currency requirements for the previous 90-day period
  • earn the USPA Coach Rating by attending the complete Coach course or testing out of the Coach rating
  • completed items 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 10, 13 and 16 on the USPATandem Proficiency card
  • provide a copy of the foreign tandem rating, USPA tandem proficiency card and medical certificate
